palm-1I’ll be honest… in my home stuff gets out of control. I also love kitchen appliances and utensils, so generally the kitchen gets pretty out of control, too.

That said, some of my stuff is useful, even if I’m not using it all the time. So I hate to throw stuff out or give it away.

To keep it under control I’ve set up a few systems (not that I’m saying I’m perfect at keeping them going, but they still help me a lot.)

Simplify

Get one type of storage containers and stick with them.  Being frugal and all it can be easy to try to re-use butter and sour cream tubs and other items which can be used for storage containers. Yes, it saves money… but I am forever looking for lids and containers which match.

When I purchase a set, they not only fit together (which saves space) for storage, many of the lids fit differed sized containers.  This means less clutter and less time searching.

Do an inventory of your most and least used utensils. Look for duplicates, things you haven’t used for a long time (or ever) and re-locate them to a storage bin.  I then recommend putting it away.  Anything left unused for certain should be thrown out or donated.  If you haven’t used it in six months… you are probably not going to.

Before you put the items you use back in the drawer or utensil container wipe it out and give all the utensils a good cleaning using Palmolive® Fusion Clean™ dish liquid in  Baking Soda & Lime, also available in Baking Soda & Grapefruit.

This great new dish liquid provides a Modern Twist on Cleaning™ and I love that it combines the great, scents of Lime or Grapefruit with the cleaning power of baking soda. It’s also perfect for all you worst kitchen messes because its unique formula removes 24-hour stuck-on food!

Store containers and lids close, but in separate spaces. You may have sizeable drawers and storing in the same one may make sense if you can keep them separated with an organizer basket.  My drawers are small, so I keep my containers in one and lids in another.  This way keeping them neat is easier.

It’s not beautiful… but it keeps my kitchen less cluttered.

Store less used and larger small appliances in a separate location.  I LOVE my dehydrator (check out FLM’s most popular recipe using one), but that said, I don’t use it that often (and it’s kind of huge).  Keeping it on my counter top or even in my kitchen would be silly. So I had my husband get me some racks that I could store all sorts of items from the kitchen in my garage. I keep appliances, pots and pans and other things out there.  It keeps kitchen clutter to a minimum.

These are just a few ideas that might get you started in having a simpler kitchen.  Do you have any of your tips to share?
